Depending on how much tooth is remaining and your finances, there are a number of options.
The tooth could receive root canal treatment, followed by the insertion of a post and placement of a crown. If very little tooth structure remains above the gum, you may need gum/bone surgery.
If the tooth cannot be saved, it can be removed, followed by:
- Putting in a dental implant immediately, if there is enough bone to support the implant.
- Putting in an implant later.
- Creating a permanent bridge that is cemented in place. The teeth on either side of the space will be used as anchors for the bridge.
- Creating a removable bridge that is taken out every night.
A dental implant is a replacement tooth made of metal (usually titanium). It is screwed into the jawbone and a crown is placed on top.
I hope this information helps you. You can discuss these possibilities with your dentist.
