Your husband's complaints are the most common ones from people who wear dentures.
Implants can be used in several ways. In the lower jaw, implants often are placed where the lower front teeth were. Then a denture is made that clips or screws onto the implants. The implants hold the denture in place so it doesn't move around and irritate the gums.
In the upper jaw, implants are usually placed in the front of the mouth and near where the eye teeth used to be. Then the denture is clipped or screwed to the implants With four to eight implants in the upper jaw, the upper denture can be made shorter. Often, it does not need a palate extension. All of these factors make it more comfortable and make people less likely to gag.
Clipped in dentures are easier to clean and are often less expensive. Screwed in dentures usually require more implants, are harder to clean and cost more. However, only a dental professional can take out a screwed in denture. This may give a person the feeling that the denture is "permanent" and more like his or her own teeth.
